24/7 emergency service

The 3 AM boiler call.

“We get calls at 3 AM for boilers that stopped working, and we make sure we get out and assist the homeowner immediately.”

A furnace or boiler that quits on a below-zero night can’t wait for Monday. Neither can an air conditioner during a July heat wave when someone at home can’t take the heat. Call (763) 291-1615, day or night.

(763) 291-1615

Smell gas? Leave the house, don’t flip switches, and call your gas utility or 911 from outside. CO alarm? Get everyone out and call 911. No heat in freezing weather? Call us, and never use the oven or a grill indoors for heat.

What should I do if I smell gas?

Leave the house right away and take everyone with you. Don’t flip light switches, use the thermostat, start a car in an attached garage or use your phone until you’re outside and away from the house.

From outside, call your gas utility’s emergency line (for most north-metro homes that’s CenterPoint Energy) or 911. Don’t go back in until they say it’s safe. Once the leak is handled, we can repair or replace the appliance involved.

How long do furnaces and air conditioners last in Minnesota?

A well-maintained gas furnace commonly lasts 15–20 years and a central air conditioner about 12–15 years, though age alone isn’t a reason to replace.

Our long heating season puts more hours on a furnace than in warmer states, so maintenance matters. The better questions are how often it’s breaking, what the repair costs and how much energy it’s using.

Do heat pumps work in a Minnesota winter?

Yes, especially modern cold-climate heat pumps, which can keep heating well below zero, though their output and efficiency drop as it gets colder.

Most Minnesota homes pair a heat pump with backup heat: a gas or propane furnace (called dual fuel) or electric heat. The heat pump handles cooling and most of the mild heating days, and the backup takes over in deep cold.

How often should I change my furnace filter?

Check it monthly and change a standard 1-inch filter every one to three months, more often with pets, construction dust or during heavy heating and cooling months. Thicker 4–5 inch media filters often last 6–12 months.

A clogged filter is one of the most common reasons a furnace overheats and shuts down or an AC coil freezes.

What do AFUE, SEER2 and HSPF2 mean?

AFUE is a furnace or boiler’s fuel efficiency: a 96% AFUE furnace turns about 96% of its fuel into heat for the home. SEER2 rates cooling efficiency, and HSPF2 rates a heat pump’s heating efficiency; higher is better for both.

SEER2 and HSPF2 replaced the older SEER and HSPF ratings in 2023 with a tougher test, so the numbers look lower even for comparable equipment.
